During these unimaginable days, I’ve thought of you, your family and the workers who I had occasion to meet during our remodel in 2018.  Little did I know that I would ever spend so much time in front of my kitchen sink, peering into the refrigerator or rearranging my pantry shelves, to say nothing of the time in front of the cooktop.

Candidly, I was never much interested in domesticity, but having this bright, beautifully finished space has had a profound effect on Chuck and I during the last few months.  It has inspired creativity, cheered us every morning over coffee and  warmed us every evening during dinner.  Yes, I’ve even baked the banal banana bread. We always thought of our Zuma house as a sanctuary surrounded by a cathedral of sycamores and eucalyptus. The house floorplan is open: the kitchen overlooks the Great room which in turn frames floor to ceiling glass doors overlooking a park-like lawn. Our kitchen is the heart of the house and leads by example — neat but bold lines, statement of handle (as well as no handle) details, smart functionality, and understated yet playful personality. We are clearly in love with it and are deeply grateful to Meredith and Steven for sharing our vision and recognizing the individuality of the project.

We were in sync from the very beginning and felt supported every step of the way: from choosing the cabinet and counter materials for the kitchen, hallway and bathrooms; to finessing the plans, being confidently guided to the best kitchen appliance solutions to fit our vision - and budget; to the top-notch expertise in installation, not to mention the flexibility and support, while dealing with the consequences of the Wolsey fires and mud slides. From the moment we entered the Cooper Pacific showroom, it was clear they were the kitchen design team for us.  At the time, little did we know that their exquisite work and the ease with which we collaborated would be so amazing, that ultimately, we would task them with creating half our house!  Don and I have found Steven Cooper's and Meredith Gullion's design aesthetic to be unsurpassed by any trade professionals we have ever worked with. 

They keenly curate materials in their showroom.  They will research, find and create whatever a project entails.  Steven has his hand firmly on the cutting edge of new products and sources globally.  Somehow, Cooper Pacific is able to deliver 100% of the time when tasked with the most challenging requests, (we have thrown them some whopping curve balls,) taking them in stride and engineering the near impossible with flawless results.

From the client side, when you start to think about what you might truly want if anything is indeed possible, the design process is infinitely more exciting!  The synergetic working relationship we developed with Cooper Pacific, due to their flexibility and profound expertise has been exhilarating and hugely liberating.  Once we sign off on any of the many final renderings and specifications, we let go of all worry and concern. 

They absolutely have every minute detail covered, nailed down and categorically guaranteed.   Don and I have been thrilled with the seamless installations and everything CP has produced for us thus. 

Since our original kitchen commission with Cooper Pacific (Summer '15), we have expanded their scope of work over what will be a 28 month construction period to include the salon bar, the butler's pantry, breakfast room including its furniture, nearly every closet in the house, (all are customized), her bath vanity and her dressing room vanity, all guest bathrooms, the laundry room, her office cabinetry, his office cabinetry, all guest room cabinetry, maid's cabinetry and bath, the utility room, and a very tricky 27 foot long set of concealed 10' high tall cabinets and panels which they engineered brilliantly.   

Recently, I learned that Cooper Pacific has done projects on several continents.  It is nice to know that clients, not just those in California can enjoy their outstanding talents and products.

We would certainly not entrust any other company with the very tall task of bringing the vision of our new home to life!
