‘Hollywood, The First 100 Years’ Wattles Mansion Showcase

The Wattles Mansion is truly a one of a kind Los Angeles landmark. A luxurious reminder of a time that has long ago passed, this 1907 home is still situated on its original 47 acres, representing the largest intact, historic property within Los Angeles city limits. This year will be the first time the City of LA will open the Wattles Mansion to the public as a designer showcase, where the city’s top interior designers will come together to reimagine the property through the theme of, ‘Hollywood, The First 100 Years.’

Cooper Pacific Kitchens, premier kitchen design firm, is working with acclaimed Southern California interior designer Kathleen Beall, ASID, CID in providing access to premium kitchen appliances at her period specific kitchen as part of the City of Los Angeles Wattles Mansion Showcase. The firms of Cooper and Beall have a working relationship spanning over 20 years with Beall recognized for the international Gold Nugget Award of Merit for another vintage inspired kitchen project. CEO Steven Cooper, will loan a gorgeous La Cornue range and hood, for a breathtaking focal point of the room. La Cornue’s state of the art ranges and stoves have a rich history, spanning from 1908 Paris to present day, where they are still handmade to order with incredible amounts of detail and pride.

Each La Cornue is assembled by one single person, from the start of production all the way to finalizing the very last details, ensuring every product is top of the line. A favorite of cooking legend Julia Childs and movie stars Brad Pitt and George Clooney, there’s truly not a brand that can come close to rivaling the quality and rich history of La Cornue.

The City of Los Angeles has partnered with Reitzhaus and Modern Luxury Media to transform the Wattles Mansion into a designer showcase with the glamour and romance of the Golden Age of Hollywood. Each designer has chosen a famous star or movie from the era as inspiration. Beall, president of the Beall Design Group, Inc., has chosen the Oscar-winning “The Artist” in her design of the kitchen suite, which includes the butler’s pantry, dry pantry (now reimagined as a flower arranging room), and a staff dining room turned breakfast room. The preview event will be covered by the show house media sponsor Modern Luxury Media for INTERIORS California Magazine. The show house itself, each room, and each designer will be featured in Angeleno Magazine.

About the Wattles Mansion:

Built for the Wattles family as a vacation home in 1907, this mansion turned into the family’s permanent residence shortly after when Gurdon Wattles became a primary financier of early Hollywood movie studios. In its time, the mansion entertained, wined, and dined all that the early Hollywood movie era had to offer. It was built in Mission Revival style by architectural stalwarts Myron Hunt and Elmer Grey known for their extraordinary work around Los Angeles. The city of Los Angeles later purchased the home directly from the Wattles family.

Showcase Details:

The Wattles Mansion Showcase House takes place on March 25 – April 17th with tour hours between 10AM-4PM.

For tickets and more information, please see http://www.reitzhausproductions.com/

Proceeds will benefit the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks; Homes for Heroes, a foundation benefitting homeless veterans; and the American Society of Interior Designers Foundation.

Built-in Coffee Maker

Coffee cravings? Get your fix with these tips from the kitchen design pros at Cooper Pacific

True coffee connoisseurs know that the best coffee depends on three important factors: delicious beans, fresh, filtered water and an excellent coffee maker. Whether you’re a coffee purist or just need your two cups of joe to get your morning going, here’s the buzz you need before you make a decision on an in-home coffee machine.

Cooper Pacific Kitchens CEO, Steven Cooper, shares his favorite built-in coffee maker brands to help you get your java on in your new kitchen.

Miele

Not only is the Miele coffee system sleek and beautiful, it comes with all of the features you’ll need for the perfect cup of joe. Whether you take your coffee black or insist on your morning latte, Miele’s built-in systems come with all of the best features, including an easy-click milk system. The milk is key for presentation, taste and body.  Check out the milk frothing feature — each unit has a different solution, so be sure you try this out before you buy.

Do you like a large latte, but your spouse needs an extra strong Ristretto? Make sure your unit is programmable for individual users so you can save your favorite brew – or 2. This Miele unit has up to 10 user profiles, so everyone in your family gets their favorite drink on demand!

Gaggenau

The best part of this built-in coffee maker are the many water features.  Not only does this beautiful system have 4 different water hardness settings, it also has the option to select 12 different water levels.

Many of the higher-end makers have large reservoirs (including this Gaggenau, with its 1.9 quart water tank), so you can go longer between fill-ups, but our favorite feature is the plumbed-in water line, so you don’t have to add water as you go.

Wolf

While you may think you need to go with a countertop model to save space, many of the built-ins fit the space of a full size microwave. If an impeccable latte is high on your must-have list, think about swapping out the micro. This Wolf unit doesn’t require any extra plumbing, which means it can really go anywhere in your kitchen.

Even if you couldn’t think of drinking anything other than a fully loaded cup of joe, you may well have a guest who prefers decaf. Be sure to check if you can switch out the beans or use pre-ground beans in your preferred brew to make everyone happy. This system has five different strength settings, so you know you’ll get the exact flavor you want.

Pro Tip: Try cleaning it BEFORE you buy it! With all the fancy bells and whistles, it’s easy to overlook maintenance. Make sure you fully understand the cleaning requirements of the unit. Do a test run!

Artistic Electronic Renderings

In order to help this client better visualize the colors, materials, and feeling of the space, we prepared a computer rendering for them.

There are several different materials and finishes in the space. The cabinets on the perimeter are finished in white milk paint, while the island is stained in a very soft gray tone. Calcutta Gold marble tops are utilized in all areas but the seating island. A wood top was picked for the seating island for both aesthetic and simply because of the warmth of the wood at the sitting area.

Glass wall cabinets are finished in a blackened stainless finish which will be repeated on the custom stainless hood. . The wood flooring is a perfect complement to the color of the cabinets.
